"Before we found CQT we had tried a 1:1 tutor at home for almost a year. Despite the extra support we weren’t seeing much progress and, more importantly, my son’s confidence in Maths remained very low. I felt we needed to try something different.

Initially, I wasn’t sure whether an online group lesson would work for my son. However, after speaking to Jo, I decided to give it a try — and I’m so pleased I did.

One of the biggest differences was the structure of the tutoring. His previous tutor asked him what he wanted to work on and often he wasn’t sure. With Jo, he had a clear schedule of what they would cover each week, so he no longer had to worry about what he should be revising. He felt reassured knowing he was systematically covering everything he needed to.

The weekly practice papers showed his progress building, but it was his growing confidence that stood out most. He started tackling questions he would previously have avoided, and working through more challenging questions in his sessions helped him realise what he was capable of.

"We were recommended Jo by a friend of ours, and I'm so glad she did.
Our daughter needed a bit of support to help boost her confidence.

After each lesson, Jo would send an email regarding what they did in their lesson and  would message about whether or not they completed their homework.

Jo offers a 10 minute free session if the child's needs help with some maths homework from school or the parents need to talk to her regarding their child. But this wasn't often necessary as  the majority of the subjects they learned at school are supported by resources Jo provides on her platform.

 
The lessons are recorded, so you have the option to re-watch the lesson if they're struggling with the maths.

Our daughter wanted to move down to foundation and Jo supported us to get her to stay in higher. We were so glad that our daughter continued with higher because she got a lot better grade than anticipated and was only five marks off the next grade boundary.

Jo is very good teacher and we have continued to use Jo’s services for an other daughter.

Jo is very caring and professional and really does try to bring out the best of each and every child. What I like most about the classes, is that they are small. We were thinking about getting a one-to-one tutor. But to be honest being in a small group is better as the children bounce off each other.

“Following the mock results, we reached out to Jo for support for our daughter for her maths GCSE.

A structured approach to topic revision, looking at different topics week by week, helped her to embed her learning so that she could really understand the subject areas that she had struggled with in the year 10 exams, and in the mocks. Providing this support gave her confidence and installed a sense of calmness in her revision. And by taking the time to look at and practice exam questions, breaking down each question to say “what is the question asking us to do”, and explaining how to answer the questions step by step in order to gain as many marks as possible, really helped her to get the grade that she needed.

 Providing tuition that was aligned with my daughter’s ability was key.

Supporting my daughter by providing a comprehensive revision programme tailored to her ability was really beneficial. She wouldn’t have done that on her own! It gave focus to the areas of maths that she needed to practice.

Dear Jo,

I just wanted to say a big thank you for all your support.

Thanks to your help, our son hasn’t just improved in Math, he’s also grown a lot in confidence. He’s realised that with focus and effort, he can achieve higher results.

Over the last six months, he’s come a long way. He used to average around a 7 in STEM subjects, sometimes a 6 or 8. Now he’s expecting at least an 8 in almost all his GCSEs and even a 9 in Maths; which is a big jump, especially since the school originally predicted a 7.

It’s been amazing to watch this change. Honestly, the actual grades don’t matter to us as much anymore.

What’s more important is seeing him take things seriously, work hard, and believe in what he can do.

He’s also become more organised and driven, all on his own, just because he wants to do even better.
